有鑑於以往出版的蕭邦作品中存在著一些經常被迷信般地尊重的傳統以及印刷失誤之處；我們這次計劃獻給大家一本沒有受到這些可疑地傳統及印刷錯誤影響的蕭邦作品集。同時，這本書中也會對技巧上有困難之處做一徹底的分析，以期提供大家一套有理性、有組織的練習方法。

此練習法的基本原則是──練習，但並不是將困難的樂節整個拿來練習，而是要將其困難之處簡化，找出構成困難之癥結，再加以充分練習。

這個原則對所有的鋼琴練習都是有效的。藝術的基本特色是在於它的感受性和理智性，但機械性的練習卻會使此種特性大為失色；而我們的基本原則將會使大家免於此種困擾。雖然表面上看來它的成效很慢，但事實上它卻能保證學習者有很明確的進步。

老師和學生都會從書裏面所提供的練習方法中找到一個準則，而由此基準上再發展出能適當地使每一演奏者解決個別困難的練習。

我們在書中並沒有加上任何審美學上的觀點。對於用手來表現的藝術，我們的確是需要立下一些規則：但風格和風韻卻是從不遵循規則的。
